2nd Saturday

Second Saturday comes alive! Next event - May 12!
“The Art of the Cake” featured for 2nd Saturday in Collingswood in May and June!
Collingswood’s monthly downtown art and music event is getting a little sweeter for May and June featuring arts and artistic treats from local art students, bakers and painters.
Students from The Art institute of Philadelphia will display cakes decorated in the style of famous works of art at the outdoor patio of Grooveground Coffeebar (647 Haddon Ave). Visitors can cast votes for their favorite cake by coin drop of most fantastically decorated cakes.
Guests can also watch as local artists create cake and dessert related paintings on large canvasses on the patio. This large scale cake art exhibition will hang at Grooveground through June.
During the June 2nd Saturday event on June 9, local bakers and pastry chefs from Collingswood and surrounding towns will tackle their interpretations of art-themed cakes and present desserts for judging at Grooveground. Winners each month receive Collingswood Cash prizes.
“The Art of the Cake” is held in addition to Collingswood’s monthly 2nd Saturday festivities – a free, open air arts walk with dozens of one night exhibitions from jewelers, painters, potters, crafters and artists that show their pieces along Haddon Ave sidewalks and storefronts from 6 to 9 p.m. Art and music are on display along every block in historic, downtown Collingwood for visitors to enjoy while shopping and dining in town. Like the 2nd Saturday Collingswood Facebook page to learn more about artists and exhibits each month.
In the event of rain, the Art of The Cake exhibition will be moved indoors to Collingswood Borough Hall, 678 Haddon Ave. Cakes will not be sampled at the event, but local businesses throughout Collingswood will join in the fun by having dessert and retail specials for 2nd Saturday. There is no rain date for 2nd Saturday events. During inclement weather, artists and exhibitions are paired with business owners and moved inside.

For Artists: Each artist is responsible for placing themselves along Haddon Avenue for the event. Set up anywhere on along Haddon Avenue on the sidewalk, make sure you leave enough room for pedestrians to pass on the sidewalk, and get permission from the business (if they are open) that you are in front of to set up. Many of you have spots that you generally set up in but we want to stress that all spots along the avenue are available on a first come, first serve basis. If you are unfamiliar with Haddon Avenue we generally recommend choosing a location between Fern Ave and E. Knight Ave on either side of the street. Powell Avenue at the Lumberyard is also available for artists. Set up begins at 5pm and the event runs from 6-9pm. Each artist is responsible for easels, tables, chairs, equipment and for setting-up their stations. Locations are available outside most stores, restaurants and public buildings. We can not accommodate tents at this time.
Come on out on the Second Saturday of every month (weather permitting) between 6-9pm, it is a great way to show your work, commission-free and in a fantastic street fair atmosphere. Now that the weather is warm, many people stroll the avenue late into the evening.
For Musicians: Music performances are a very popular part of the 2nd Saturday event. This is a great way for upcoming groups and musicians to gain exposure. Music performances are non-paying. You are encouraged to leave a tip jar, which has been very successful for most musicians. We ask all artists and musicians to invite friends, family and art-lovers to come out!. If a performer or group interested in performing, please contact Music Chairman Sam Caruso at secondsatmusic@aol.com. NOTE: In order to avoid drowning out neighboring music, musicians MUST be booked through Sam Caruso. If you are not a scheduled musician for the evening, we will ask you to leave.
